The Philosopher Saint Dnyaneshwara World Peace Dome, World Peace Prayer Hall And Library, and the world’s largest dome was inaugurated at MIT, Vishwarajbaug, Pune by Venkaiah Naidu, Hon Vice President of India, in the august presence of Devendra Fadnavis, Hon Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mukta Tilak, Hon Mayor of Pune; Scientists Dr Vijay Bhatkar and Raghunath Mashelkar, Rahul Karad, Mangesh Karad among others. The imposing monumental dome, clad in the finest marble, is the vision of Dr Vishwanath Karad, the Founder-President, MIT World Peace University.

Set in the backdrop of late world-renowned actor Raj Kapoor’s heritage farm and memorial, now housing MIT, Karad’s brainchild, and one of the best educational institutions of the world, is the magnificent Dome as well as 54 larger-than-life bronze statues of some of the greatest saints, scientists and philosophers of all time, all brought to life by the 93-year-old veteran Ram Sutar. Each of the bronze statues weighs around 1500-2000 kgs and the installation by itself is an arduous task.

The 54 statues signify the union of Science, Philosophy and Spirituality and the essence of Indian Culture, Philosophy and Tradition and the aspect of World Peace.

It was a moment of great honour when Venkaiah Naidu, Hon Vice President of India, inaugurated the edifice befitting the glory of Mother India, and the monument, a blend of Science, Spirituality and Philosophical aspects in life, for the welfare of mankind, opened its doors to the world on Gandhi Jayanti, said an emotional Septuagenarian and veteran Educationist Dr Vishwanath Karad, at a press conference at MIT Vishwarajbaug campus, Pune, marking the inauguration of the Philosopher Saint Dnyaneshwara World Peace Dome, World Peace Prayer Hall And Library.

Over the last 13 years, Dr. Karad painstakingly created the magnificent monument at the Vishwarajbaug Campus of MIT, spanning 62,500 sq ft, under the World’s largest dome with a diameter of 160 feet. Standing tall over the Vatican Dome, the diameter and the height of the dome are 139.6 feet and 263 feet (at its apex) respectively.

Thanking Dr Vishwanath Karad for making him a part of the peace initiative, Venkaiah Naidu said What you have created, Dr. Karad, will go down as one of the greatest contributions in the history of this world. And there cannot be a greater day than the day where we are celebrating the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave us the greatest weapon, non-violence. When we see the world changing, we feel the need to bring harmony and peace in this world. The dome is a step in that direction.

Devendra Fadnavis, Hon Chief Minister of Maharashtra, stated If there is friction in a dark room between brothers, the moment there is light, the friction disappears. This is because of the darkness of ignorance that was replaced by the light of knowledge. The dome is a structure that brings light and peace.
