Orange Unified School District gathered with surrounding school districts earlier this year for their Innovate for the Future, A Night of Computer Science Showcasing Orange Unified Schools event. The evening, held at Santiago Canyon College, highlighted various computer science opportunities offered throughout Orange Unified.

Students, parents, teachers, and administrators came together to experience first-hand how OUSD is building student computer science skills at the elementary, middle and high school levels to cultivate successful global leaders through a well-rounded, collaborative environment. Twelve different OUSD schools demonstrated STEM and computer science opportunities offered to students, and participants were invited to engage in hands-on activities including robotics scrimmages, code building, 3D printing, and Minecraft.

Additionally, Innovate for the Future offered formal presentations given by industry experts to connect classroom curriculum to future career paths for students. Areas of focus included drone pilot, software developer, and videogame designer. The presentations were designed to help parents and students of all grade levels understand how computer science can impact children at each grade level and prepare them for future career opportunities in STEM fields.

Innovate for the Future was a successful event where community members were able to experience Orange Unified School District’s ongoing mission to provide innovative opportunities to engage students as they prepare for the future.
