Industrial Journalist TR Cutler Examines Why Manufacturing Faces Massive Talent Shortages

Throughout 2019, Industrial journalist TR Cutler will examine why manufacturing enterprises face significant labor shortages. Cutler’s data corroborated the newly launched Deloitte’s Skills Gap study, which found the manufacturing skills gap continues to widen. Those data revealed that 2.4 million jobs will likely go unfilled over the next decade, jeopardizing $454 billion of economic output in 2028, or more than $2.5 trillion over the next decade.

According to the Deloitte study, five out of ten open positions for skilled workers in the U.S. manufacturing industry remain unoccupied today due to this skills shortage. Of the top reasons these positions go unfilled, the negative perception of the manufacturing industry tops the list, according to 45 percent of respondents.
