STUDENT-RUN PUBLICATION – SAN MARIN HIGH SCHOOL PONY EXPRESS – BRINGS STELLAR REPORTING ON NEWS TO COMMUNITY & CAMPUS
The San Marin Pony Express provides the community of San Marin with updated, student-written news on topics that are relevant and important to students. Journalism students at San Marin High School who provide articles for the paper were recognized for their excellent writing in the Pony Express by earning the highest rating of All American from the National Scholastic Press Association.
The rating was based on a detailed critique of all issues from the 2017-18 school year and shows the determination of San Marin journalism students in writing and editorial excellence. Judges for the National Scholastic Press Association include journalists and media professionals who grade on a high caliber of writing, editing, and journalism.
Pony Express staff have received recognition for their work from numerous institutions and competitions including the Journalism Education Association of Northern California, the Santa Clara University High School Journalism Competition, and the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
English and Journalism teacher at San Marin High School, Scott MacLeod, said that these wonderful students have been working incredibly hard for the past several years to improve the Pony Express paper, taking it from good to great. He said, “Given the challenges facing a free press today, their passion and commitment are inspiring.” San Marin takes pride in providing many award-winning programs in the areas of academics, athletics, and fine arts, which includes journalism and participation in the Pony Express.
