Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club sees Promise in Sustained Puerto Plata Tourism Totals
Growing tourism rates within the Dominican Republic — most notably the Puerto Plata Province capital of San Felipe de Puerto Plata — is encouraging to Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club (LHVC). Chairman Markus Wischenbart isn’t content with this success, however, and he plans to expand hotel and room options to increase overseas visitorship.

The Dominican Republic city of Puerto Plata is on an undeniably upward trajectory. Growth of the tourism industry here is reflected in hotel occupancy rates – and that’s what Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club (LHVC) hopes to expand further.

LHVC Chairman Markus Wischenbart wants to drive up foreign visitorship and to accomplish this, he plans to increase the number of units and hotel rooms that his resort company offers. This sector is nothing new to Wischenbart, whose company constructed Hotel Hacienda de Puerto Plata.

“A few months ago, we opened a new project in Cabarete of 13 buildings with 1, 2 and 3-bedroom units. We need more rooms because even in low seasons, we have an occupancy rate between 70 and 80 percent,” he told the newspaper Listín Diario. These comments came during the International Tourism Exchange (ITB) in Berlin, Germany and Wischenbart is confident that Puerto Plata needs more hotel rooms to meet year-round occupational rate demands.

Moreover, the LHVC chair said that his group is helping overall tourism numbers in the Dominican Republic and that the country plays an important role as a tourist destination in the Caribbean region. He’s also seen great changes for the better since LHVC began operations more than 15 years ago.

Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club Chairman Markus Wischenbart points out two crucial considerations when it comes to sustained tourism rates within Puerto Plata Province.

  • Security: Wischenbart says that he’s never personally experienced safety and security problems while in the country. What’s more, he says that he’s never heard complaints from tourists staying at LHVC properties. “The Dominican Republic is a safe destination,” he said.
  • Local Impact: Wischenbart says that Lifestyle Group has pitched in plenty of funds as the company has expanded within the Dominican economy. For example, its Hotel Presidential Suites Cabarete by Lifestyle was built with $36 million USD and added about 800 total jobs. LHVC shows no signs of slowing down and Wischenbart says that his operation accounts for 4,500 “direct” and 12,000 “indirect” jobs.
