HOUSTON, TEXAS – April 12, 2019 – G-Squared Events is excited to announce their upcoming event entitled “Mother’s Day Soul Music Fest” with The O’Jays, Stephanie Mills, El DeBarge, and Con Funk Shun. The event will take place on May 11, 2019, at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Texas.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:00PM and the event will take place at 7:30PM.

Presale begins February 15, 2019, at 10AM at Ticketmaster.com and at the Smart Financial Centre Box Office.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting on February 18, 2019, at 10 AM. Ticket prices for the event range from $49.50 – $139.50.

The O’Jays’ place in modern music is secure with work spawning 24 Top Ten smashes and 59 total charted songs. Not to mention their incredibly energetic and dynamic live shows. After 50+ years of making such international hits as “Back Stabbers,” “For The Love Of Money,” “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby,” “Love Train,” “I Love Music,” “Use Ta Be My Girl” and “Have You Had Your Love Today,” the O’Jays are like fine wine… they just get better with time. The stage, whether in America or on international soil, is where the O’Jays are most comfortable and let it all out with their soulful singing. All generations love the O’Jays, which is why their “For the Love” album, (released in 2001), was a chart-topper, and in 2002, was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 2005, The O’Jays were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. In the same year, The O’Jays were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and honored with BET’s Life Time Achievement Award in 2009. In 2013, they were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame. Today, the songs of The O’Jays are still being used in many movies, commercials, and TV shows. “For The Love of Money” continues to be the theme song for “The Apprentice.”

Stephanie Mills is a Grammy award–winning singer, songwriter and Broadway stage actress. Mills rose to stardom as “Dorothy” in the original Broadway run of the musical The Wiz from 1975 to 1977. The song “Home” from the show later became a number 1 R&B hit for Mills and her signature song. During the 1980s, Mills scored five number one R&B hits, including “Home”, “I Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love”, “I Feel Good All Over”, “You’re Puttin’ A Rush on Me” and “Something in the Way (You Make Me Feel)”. Mills’ won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her song “Never Knew Love Like This Before” in 1981.

Multiple Grammy® Award nominee, El DeBarge started his career as the lead singer of the family group DeBarge and later as a solo artist. El DeBarge helped to define the soulful R&B sound of the 1980s and beyond. Long known for his high tenor register and strong falsetto, his is the voice behind hits like “Time Will Reveal,” “All This Love,” “Love Always,” and his signature tune, “Rhythm of the Night.”

Con Funk Shun has carried the torch of funk music for over four decades and continues to be one of the most recognized bands in the genre today. Their chart-topping discography has influenced scores of artists and lives on through the new generation. In 1976, they signed to Mercury Records and released a star- studded collection of eleven albums in the next ten years. With iconic hits like “Got to Be Enough” and legendary slow-jams like “Love’s Train,” the band assured their place in funk history, with four albums going gold, and one platinum. Their singles continue to receive steady radio airtime today. Sampled by countless R&B and hip-hop artists, traces of their hits can be heard on a wide variety of albums. Con Funk Shun is still making audiences dance around the globe.
