Kickstarter Launch: EvoCell Universe Creator - Graphical Game Editor without programming

On 19th April 2019, the Viennese high technology artificial intelligence company Wizards at Work GmbH, which is funded by the Austrian State Financing Bank aws, launches Kickstarter for the web-based game editor EvoCell Universe Creator and the new computer game EvoCell Space Saga.

Create your own games: EvoCell Universe Creator

The EvoCell Universe Creator is a graphical game editor that allows gamers to become game makers themselves. Users can create their own games quickly and easily with the help of an artificial intelligence (AI) empowered engine. They can also modify or extend games that other users created.

The creation of games with the EvoCell Universe Creator is facilitated by an intuitive, graphical interface, for which no programming knowledge is necessary. The EvoCell Universe Creator is the most innovative Austrian contribution to the current generation of smart online game editors and the only game editor in the market that is suitable for both children and adults. A powerful assistant based on AI takes care of the actual programming work, allowing users to focus on the creative aspects of game development.

It only takes a few minutes to create mobile mini games with the editor EvoCell, which includes a social platform where users can discuss, share games on all common platforms (Android, iPhone, PC, Mac, Linux) and even sell their games, a concept for game lovers similar to the concept that Youtube advanced for video lovers.

A universe of possible games: EvoCell Space Saga

EvoCell Space Saga is a fun action computer game that can be created with the editor within minutes and played in both single-player and multi-player mode. The players enter an immersive infinite lively pixel universe. It is a blend of retro pixel aesthetics with a biologically inspired physics and AI engine.

The editor also allows the creation of interactive art, for instance, augmented-reality art installations by Litto aka Daniela Weiss. Those installations are presented at the Kickstarter launch party.

Famous supporters

The star guest at the Kickstarter launch party is Hollywood actress and jazz legend Chase Masterson (Leeta from Star Trek DS9). Alyssandra Singh, Blockchain evangelista and current Miss Europe Continental Austria, will host the event. Dara Lucie and her band have launched an album on Spotify called EvoCell with title song I’d kill that woman to embrace the technology advance.

The company behind EvoCell and insights into its technology

The Viennese game development company Wizards at Work GmbH was founded in 2016 by a team of game engineers and artists around CEO Philipp Tiefenbacher from the Viennese hackerspace Metalab (Chaos Computer Club).

The EvoCell Universe Creator is based on virtual artificial life and biology inspired mathematical models. Living processes can be simulated on the computer: Pixel precise calculation of content, allows simulation of physical phenomena, such as explosions, collisions and gravity. Artificially intelligent behaviour of level end bosses works with an integrated physical logic: Instead of script controlled enemies EvoCell games simulate the cellular behaviour of the opponents themselves. The results look very interactive without any programming effort.

The algorithms for the Cellular Automata originate from own research results under the direction of Chief Legal Patents & Research Officer Stephanie Ness. The biology-inspired approach to the question of artificial life based on Cellular Automata is a bottom-up approach in contrast to the top-down approach of a statistical model based on artificial intelligence. Cellular Automata are characterised by the fact that they generate interesting and logically deep patterns on the basis of very simple prerequisites. Scientist Stephanie Ness says: “We are currently using the intelligent behaviour of Cellular Automata in game development. In the future, we will also see our technology in bioinformatics and playful process documentation. For further research, we are currently looking for cooperation partners in the scientific field.”
