Andre’ Serraile introduces us to life during the Great Depression of the 1930s – a time of extreme difficulty. He talks about how his grandmother and father worked hard to provide for the family – and how they refused to allow failures or setbacks to break their spirit.
Tracing his family history back several generations, he recalls their experiences while serving in the various branches of the Defense Forces of the US. Serraile says his parents always dreamt of a better life for the family and worked extremely hard to make it happen – his mother entering college after the birth of three children, demonstrating what dedication to the desired goal can achieve.
Andre’ was always an achiever, bagging scholarships in high school and college – but also had his fair share of disappointments. He had a keen interest in music since childhood, and took up playing the trumpet; he says he continues to learn his craft even today. After his stint working in Norwalk, California, he rotated home to care for his ailing father. Before his death, Andre’ worked in a few jobs, as a manager trainee for a furniture rental and rental car agencies, a kitchen supervisor. After his father’s death, Andre’ became a substitute teacher and finally became a Craps dealer in the casino industry and has worked in this industry for many years. He knew he could develop people and presentation skills in this field. Eventually, he did get what he wanted because he took his job experiences to become what he really wanted to be all along and that was to become an entrepreneur. He now pursues a career in real estate with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services of Las Vegas.
Besides his father who acted as his ultimate role model, Winston Churchill inspires Serraile towards more profound levels of success and leadership with these words. “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts” and “Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.” In the end, one has to stand up and speak when required, work hard, and live with integrity.
