People are Adopting Fewer Children in America Today

Today, however, the reasons are different. This is not done today as a way of adapting to societal norms, but is done in a much more personal way. Today it is done as a way for a parent to show them that they see them as their kids, not as step-kids. Luckily, there are attorneys now who can aid you on that road to legal adoption, such as Cindy D. Sackrin, who specializes in family law.

It is true.  It is also unfortunate, but the good news is that people can change that.  Across the United States, there are many adoptions that occur from out-of-state, but there are also many that occur where the adoptive parents are located. There is also a more hidden message here, as well: Many stepparents are adopting their stepchildren.

Is this on the rise? Unfortunately, there has not been much research in this part of the adoption field, but adopting a stepchild is considered commonplace today.  Even fifty years ago, marrying into a family meant accepting that family after a divorce.  To show your spouse that you loved both her/him and her/his kids, it was natural to show that you embraced your step-kids by formally adopting them.

This new way of making a stepparent officially a parent does more than just assure their kids of how they truly feel about them; it also makes them their official guardians.  Today, that is especially important for more than just symbolism.  If a child is in trouble, the police need to know who to contact and who can see the child. A stepparent who is not a legal guardian could very well not have permission to see them.  In the event of a stepchild getting into an accident and ending up in a hospital, parents need to be contacted. If their biological parent is out of the country or unavailable for some reason, and you are not a legal guardian, you might not be able to see your stepson or stepdaughter.  Even if you have a will, children who are your biological children will have more rights over a stepchild that was never legally adopted.

For those reasons, law firms, like Cindy D. Sackrin have stepped up to the plate to ease people through the legal adoption of their step-kids.  This law office is a dedicated firm to help you through the process of adoption and will answer any questions you have.

The reasons for adopting a stepchild have never been clearer.  Whether it is a show of love or simply legal, it has become the reason for many stepparents to adopt across the US.  Cindy D. Sackrin understands this and offers a limited free consultation to help you down the road towards the legal adoption of your stepchildren.
