But things take a very unusual turn when she discovers that the skeleton she is working on isn’t human. The problem escalates when it disappears. She needs answers and she needs them fast, but unwittingly, she gets embroiled with conflicting and powerful families of werewolves, vampires, and witches, and a long-standing feud between witches and werewolves. The only hope of finding the skeleton is surely working with the werewolves, but what’s the catch and can they be trusted?

The first thing that struck me when I opened this book is the elegance of the prose. Angelina Kerner creates a powerful premise for her narrative. We encounter a forensic anthropologist who is as intelligent as she is devoted to her job. Then there is the shocking discovery that she is dealing with something far different from what she had thought. The conflict escalates with the missing skeleton and the quest for answers puts her in the middle of a conflict between supernatural beings. The plot is masterfully handled, the conflict strong, and the characters multidimensional.

The Scented Bones (Svabodina Case Files) is a page-turner, with chapters that are well measured for a quick read, each ending with something puzzling, something that prompts the reader to turn to the next page.
