Jeremy’s Game uses Hockey to raise funds for the needy

Innovative non profit initiative, Jeremy’s Game, set to hold a Hockey Fights Hunger campaign on June 8 to raise funds for feeding those in need

Jeremy’s Game is an initiative organized to celebrate the life of Jeremy Bannon, an outstanding and talented chef, who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in March 2011. The initiative was created by Dennis Bannon, Jeremy’s father, an ex-professional hockey player in Europe, has grown to become the Hockey Fights Hunger campaign, an event organized to raise money for a cause that was close to Jeremy’s heart – combatting hunger.

Jeremy Bannon was a chef at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and was passionate about reducing the level of hunger, caring deeply about feeding people. However, Jeremy was only able to reach the world as much as he could as his short yet impactful life was cut short after he was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2011. Dennis Bannon has, however, taken Jeremy’s cause and continued the pursuit of feeding as many people as possible with the organization of Jeremy’s Game.

The 2019 edition of the event is set to hold at SkateNation on June 8th by 5:30 p.m with all the proceeds from the game donated to benefit food banks, soup kitchens and homeless shelters. In addition to purchasing the ticket, which goes for just $10.00 to support the laudable cause, fans can also donate non-perishable food items at the game. Some food items that will be appreciated include canned meats and fish, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits, spaghetti sauce, hot and cold cereals, pasta and rice.

“Jeremy loved to feed people, whether in a restaurant or in his own home,” said Dennis. “I couldn’t imagine a better way to honor Jeremy’s memory than to combine his passion for food with his love for hockey, while helping a feed those in need,” Dennis continued.

Notable players scheduled to take to the ice include several current professional and alumni, such as Jay Croop, Ryan Jazinsky, Kyle Rhodes, Brain Goudie, Josh Pietrantonio, Sam Rhodes, Glen Irwin and Scott Gruhl.

Feeding the needy is an arduous task that requires the support of sponsors. Sponsors can participate at any level – from jersey sponsors to individual sponsor packages and raffle item donations. Depending on the level of donation, sponsors will receive public address announcements, program advertisements, website recognition, banner exposure and logo on the game day t-shirt.

The game will be followed by autographs and a silent auction, which will include signed memorabilia from the NHL including the Washington Capital, Boston Bruins, Las Vegas Golden Knights and the KHL and many others.

This year’s event will include the inaugural Presentation of the Berke Bates Memorial Hero’s award to a member of local law enforcement with the year’s awardee being Powhatan County Deputy Sheriff Quinn Pasi and his K-9 Bain. The award is presented in recognition of their recent location of two missing 8 years old and returning them safely to their family. Major Robert Gooch IV who was tragically killed after he returned from deployment will also be honored at the event.

Tickets to the game can be bought in advance or at the door for $ 10.00.
