SOUTH AFRICAN HORROR ‘8’ RECEIVES WORLD PREMIERE AT FANTASIA
Los Angeles, CA – May 29, 2019 – Harold Hölscher’s directorial debut of ‘8’ will world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, reported The Hollywood Reporter exclusively.
Produced by Man Makes A Picture with Rolling Thunder and with a screenplay written by Hölscher, ‘8’ (aka ‘8: Fear the Legend’) is a horror film that hinges on African folklore and mythology to tell a dark story of atonement.
Starring award-winning actor, Tsamano Sebe (Of Good Report), Inge Beckmann (Escape Room), Garth Breytenbach (Troy: Fall of a City) and upcoming star, Keita Luna, ‘8’ is a unique and elevated horror film, as one of the first South African films to explore the cultural folklore and mythology.
‘8’ tells the story of William Ziel (Garth Breytenbach), who moves his wife Sarah and adopted daughter Mary (Keita Luna) into the inherited country estate after his father’s suspicious death. When Mary begins an unlikely friendship with the farmhand Lazarus (Tsamano Sebe), his sinister motives are slowly revealed, unleashing his dark secret – he steals human souls to feed the insatiable appetite of a demon child he carries in a sack everywhere he goes. As a battle begins over the souls of this family begins, will anyone be able to survive unscathed?
Hölscher’s South African horror previously screened for buyers and programmers at the recent Cannes Marché du Film, learned Variety exclusively.
