Stanford mom and 7-year-old daughter write inspiring children’s book

A Stanford graduate of Turkish origin, Oznur Yucelen Aytekin, and her 7-year-old daughter Selin, launched campaign for their first book together. The book “A Bunny Named May” inspires children to find the courage to pursue their dreams. Written by the mother and illustrated by her daughter, the book aspires to help kids all around the world to go after their passions: “If a bunny can pursue and achieve her dreams, you too can do anything you set your mind to.”

May, the bunny and the hero of the story, sets out to do something that no other bunny has ever done before. May receives three pieces of advice from her mother and decides on her goals and learns how to achieve her goals while living a happy and meaningful life. In a world where people struggle with many issues, it is important to both go after your goals and to lead a meaningful life. This book’s message is valuable in today’s world where we witness many kids suffering from anxiety and depression.

Oznur Yucelen Aytekin wrote the book 8 years ago, while she was working at a high-tech job in Silicon Valley. She and her husband had just purchased their first home and Selin was still a baby then.  While everything seemed fine on the surface, a panic attack reminded her that she might die and not be around to see her baby again.  She wanted to leave something behind that would capture the essence of what she, as a mother, wanted to share with her child. That’s how “A Bunny Named” was born.  It came to life with Selin’s drawings when she turned 7 years old. The bunny May and its illustrator remind us that pursuing our dreams take courage and encourage us to share it with children.

Selin and her mom launched an Indiegogo campaign to publish “A Bunny Named May” book on May and had a great start with 30% of campaign goals reached on day 1.  Here is the link. (www.igg.me/at/ABunnyNamedMay) The campaign will be active until June 28 2019.  The mother and daughter duo will be donating 10% of the profits to charities that aim to empower girls. You can gift this book to inspire the next generation of girls.
