13-year-old Indian American, an immigrant prodigy, Kamal Kiran Raju Yerra completes his four-year college degree from Excelsior College

13-year-old Indian-born American, Kamal Kiran Raju Yerra completed his Bachelor of Science in Business degree from Excelsior College in New York on May 17, 2019, and set to graduate on June 21, 2019.

According to the 2016 Business Insider report, Yerra out-performed most of the students on the list of 14 brilliant kids who started college at 12-years old since he is already graduating college at the age of 13.

At 10 years old this prodigy child from South Carolina accelerated his school courses and started earning college credits online through the content providers approved by American Council on Education (ACE) and National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) courses. These programs are for students who want to return to college after some time in the working world, they offer accredited programs for adults. Yerra accumulated 140+ college credits from ACE and NCCRS.

However, Yerra needed to attain a high school diploma before he could enroll at Excelsior College and he wasn’t even in high school. After careful research, support, and approval from his parents, Yerra was able to complete four years of high school academics in just a few months online from Penn Foster High School.

He started accumulating 140 transferrable college credits since he was 10-years-old. Yerra seems to be following in his 15-year-old brother, Shashi Kiran Raju Yerra’s footsteps since both boys are set to graduate with their bachelor’s degrees on the same day.

“We are so pleased that both of our boys, Shashi and Kamal, have been blessed with a natural ability to learn and excel in their academic endeavors,” says software engineer and father, Ravi Yerra.

Father Ravi says, Kamal was going to middle school and spending almost 5 – 6 hours a day to accomplish this enormous goal. By doing so, he couldn’t keep up with home works and assignments resulting in becoming an average student in middle school. However, Kamal is feeling very proud that he was able to finish his middle school from the public school system and also a Bachelor degree in Business degree from Excelsior College in the same month.

Yerra’s parents, Durga and Ravi Yerra were born and raised in Indian and have successful software careers that paved the way for them to immigrate to the US. The parents both yearned to provide more opportunities for their young children with immigration, but they never dreamed of their two oldest boys would complete their bachelor’s degrees at such young ages.

Durga says that she wants her children to be happy in whatever they want to do and that she is extremely proud of Kamal for being one of the youngest in the world to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. She is looking forward to his future success.

Excelsior College has graduated nearly 170,000 graduates to date, but has never had a graduate like Yerra. After completing his bachelor’s degree with a 4/4 GPA, the 13-year-old genius says that he is all set to apply to the Master of Business program at Harvard University. “Beyond that, I hope to be a business leader that will change the world for others,” said Yerra.
