In order to consider the way that artificial intelligence will change the landscape of leadership in the modern corporate environment, we must first define what exactly a good leader is. In common terms, we know that a leader is someone who isn’t afraid to take charge, delegate, and get the ball rolling on a project. They are someone that is able to successfully lead a team to victory, whether it be accomplishing a project on time, securing a new client, or reaching your sale goals for the month. This is also someone that can be flexible, ready to adapt to quickly changing circumstances. They need to be able to calmly tackle obstacles that will rise up along the way, and not be daunted by uncertainty.

According to Jean Chalopin an entrepreneur, “It is human nature to plan ahead and prepare for anything, essentially it is a form of self-preservation. But we know that it is simply impossible in the rapidly changing corporate environment that many people work in, to fully prepare for every single scenario.” One positive aspect of artificial intelligence is that it doesn’t need time to adjust. It doesn’t possess the capability to get overwhelmed by the sudden change and is programmed to troubleshoot, even when problems do arise.

Artificial intelligence, in various forms, has already been integrated into modern workplaces across the globe and it’s been proven to have very positive results. Artificial intelligence has been shown to increase productivity, improve employee retention and maximize employee time by ensuring they are spending their work day concentrating on the highest priority tasks. Perhaps most importantly, managers have the time to actually lead their team without devoting so much of their time to mundane busy work that shifts their focus away from the overall goal of the company.

Of course, even with all the positive outcomes, we are seeing from artificial intelligence, they are still many corporate leaders that look upon these advancements with fear. Many fears that they will simply be replaced by artificial intelligence, and that their own dedication and talents cannot possibly compare to this form of technology. However, artificial intelligence has not been designed to take away jobs but to rather make easier and allow employees to truly make the most of their time.

So how can leader’s welcome artificial intelligence instead of fearing it? They can start focusing on adaptability. A true leader is someone who can take changes such as these in stride and convince those on their team to do the same. They can acknowledge that uncertainties will certainly be present and that learning and adaptation will take time as artificial intelligence goes from being something that seems nearly fictional to a part of everyday life. Leaders can remain open-minded to artificial intelligence and convince those on their team to do the same, even if they have their own doubts or fears about it. Finally, they can recognize that no technology or machine can truly replace humanity, and take comfort in the fact that it will be humans that shape the future.
