Promoting Reform of the Current Financial System and Creating Inclusive Value

Inclusive Finance is a concept put forward by the United Nations at the “International Year of Microcredit” in 2005. In fact, it is more than a concept, it is also a specific practice. Compared with the “80-20 Rule” advocated by traditional finance, where 20% of customers generate 80% of profits, the biggest breakthrough of Inclusive Finance is that it subverts the traditional notion of serving the rich to a certain degree, so that underprivileged customers can also enjoy equal rights to financial services. In recent years, the international community has gradually taken note of the important role played by Inclusive Finance in enhancing financial inclusion, supporting economic growth, promoting employment and achieving social equality.

In order to promote the development of Inclusive Finance in China, “Development of Inclusive Finance” was explicitly proposed at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The “2015 Government Work Report” put forth “vigorous development of inclusive finance so that all in the market participants may share in and benefit from financial services”. At the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, Inclusive Finance was listed as one of the key topics, with three important documents on Inclusive Finance being submitted at the Summit for further discussion.

One of the most challenging aspects of Inclusive Finance is the expansion of the scope of services and the reduction of costs. Fintech (Financial Technology) can overcome these two major challenges to a large extent. Fintech, or financial technology refers to enterprises that utilize technology to drive financial innovation, improve the financial system thereby enhancing the efficiency of financial services and reducing operating costs. Fintech is based on a series of technological innovations such as big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain and so on. It is widely utilized in six major financial fields namely, payment settlement, loans and financing, wealth management, retail banking, insurance and transaction settlement. Achieving a high degree of integration between Finance and Technology is the Finance Industry’s mainstream future trend.
