Team 50 to 83 Years Old Breaks 24-hour World Record for Climate Change, Having an Impact of Taking Over 1,000 cars off the road

Corte Madera, CA – August 14, 2019 – A group of masters rowers, with ages ranging from 50 to 83, broke the 24-hour world record as a fundraiser to fight climate change.  On July 27, 2019 at 10am, 71 master’s members of the Marin Rowing Association (MRA) rowed a single Concept 2 rowing machine for 24 hours straight reaching 365,067 meters, breaking the previous record by 122,387 meters or 150%.

Having the environmental impact of taking more than 1,000 cars off the road, the proceeds will fund the replacement of all the gas-powered outboard engines with the first ever electric equivalent from Pure Watercraft.  Along with MRA’s 28kW of solar and 4 electric vehicle chargers, this will make MRA the first 100% sustainable rowing facility in the world.

“Crushing the 24-hour world record demonstrates the overall MRA commitment to fighting climate change”, emphasized Sandy Armstrong, MRA Executive Director.  “What this group of masters rowers accomplished is remarkable!  We look forward to demonstrating to the boating community all over the world that eliminating gas outboards is now possible.”

“As with any transformative technology, it takes strong leadership to prove it’s possible”, clarified John Younger, MRA Board Member.  “With 11 members over 70 years old participating, the event and effort are deeply inspiring.  It is a rare opportunity to collectively have the positive environmental impact of this magnitude.”

The 24-hour world record took place at the Marin Country Mart on July 27th and 28th.  Special thanks to the management of the Marin Country Mart, Frog Hollow Farm, Guru Ram Das Orchards, Rodriguez Brothers Farm, and Belcampo.

MRA has raised over $46,000 to date, 35% of the way to its $120,000 goal.
