Utah Filmmaker Daniel Jesse Explores the Rise and Fall of Silver City in his Upcoming Documentary ‘The Price of Silver’
Ogden, Utah – Independent filmmaker Daniel Jesse has for the past year been working on a documentary entitled The Price of Silver, which recounts the rise and fall of Silver City, Utah, a booming silver mining town in the early 19th century. Along with Silver City, the documentary also explores the life of its most influential citizen, Jesse Knight. Jesse Knight discovered the Humbug mine, thus launching his meteoric rise and success in business, mining, and philanthropy.

Filmmaker Daniel Jesse has family roots in the Silver City area that go back for generations:
“Over thirty years ago my father began researching our family history that is connected to Silver City,” says Jesse. “I have been inspired to pick up from where he left off and take his research and efforts to the next level by producing this documentary. It’s a fascinating part of Utah history, and we have uncovered some truly remarkable insights into those times.”
Jesse adds that the Mayor of Eureka (Silver City’s neighboring city), Nick Castleton, has graciously provided unprecedented access to rare historic relics and insightful interview segments. And the Tintic Historical Society (the Tintic mining region is the region of Utah where Silver City is located), has been key in providing rare photographs of Silver City and its structures.
In order to bring long forgotten images and structures back to life digitally, Jesse has commissioned a talented 3D artist and photo restoration expert.
Once completed, the documentary will prove to be an invaluable resource, but the project is proving to be far more costly than anticipated. Jesse has personally invested thousands of dollars himself at this point, and is in dire need of financial help if he is to see The Price of Silver to its conclusion. He also plans on submitting the film to a variety of film festivals, such as Sundance.
With this in mind, Jesse has launched an Indiegogo campaign:
“Your generous donation will be spent to have historic photographs of Silver City restored and colorized so that we can experience the city the way it appeared over one hundred years ago. Any amount you can spare would be most gratefully received. This is the first documentary of its kind, and to have to abandon it after all that’s gone into it at this point would be unthinkable.”
