“I think it was essential to have such an event to awaken the beauty inside every black woman, man, and child here at home—what better person to highlight than our own Nina Simone? Growing up here in Polk County, we had black mentors that were more caring and involved in our well-being than we do today. Mother Waymon was one of them. She was my mother’s mentor, and I enjoyed being in her presence as she welcomed us into her home, soothing my mom’s soul and lighting a fire that still lives within us today. It’s because of those rich experiences I love being the woman I am today.

Understanding and acknowledging who I am have blessed me to become friends with other ethnicities in an authentic way that I wish everyone could experience. I’m sure this event, filled with black fashion, music, beauty, and culture, will cause an awakening in everyone who attends. It’s my belief every ethnicity should celebrate its culture and beauty.

Akinloye notes, “I am looking forward to hosting more impactful events focusing on diversity, women empowerment, and community engagement embracing all walks of live here at home”.

Tanisha’s have hosted many empowerment events here in Tryon date back to July 2013. The events were geared towards personal and leadership development, empowering women and girls to dream big. A portion of the proceeds goes to support the mission of Empowering Through Beauty, Inc, a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2010
